Delve into the mid-19th century with this 1834 Capped Bust Half Dime! Minted from 1829 to 1837, Capped Bust Half Dimes were a small denomination coin used for everyday transactions. They earned their name from the design featuring Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom in ancient Rome.

This 1834 Half Dime showcases the classic Capped Bust design by William Kneass. On the obverse (heads) side, Lady Liberty faces left with flowing hair, her cap adorned with the inscription "LIBERTY." Seven stars are positioned to her left and six to her right, representing the original thirteen colonies. The date "1834" rests below Liberty's bust.

The reverse (tails) features a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. A banner above the eagle reads "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Out of Many, One), and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" surrounds the eagle along with the denomination "5 C."

Capped Bust Half Dimes, particularly those in well-preserved condition, are sought after by collectors. Owning an 1834 Capped Bust Half Dime offers a window into the coinage of the Andrew Jackson era and a chance to possess a piece of American history that facilitated small purchases nearly two centuries ago.
