1809 Classic Head Half Cent
The 1809 Classic Head Half Cent, with a mintage of just 1,200,000 pieces, is a noteworthy example within the series, ranking as a semi-key date due to its relative scarcity compared to other years. Designed by the renowned engraver John Reich, this coin features the iconic wreath reverse, symbolizing victory and peace, which adds to its collector appeal. This particular specimen is graded About Uncirculated, showcasing exceptional luster and minimal wear, indicative of careful preservation over the years. As a desirable type coin for both type collectors and those focused on early American copper, this piece represents an important milestone in U.S. coinage history, making it a significant addition to any collection. The survival rate for high-grade examples is notably low, enhancing its desirability among serious numismatists.
